Toys for Toddlers are Not Considered Educational Without these 5 Aspects
from:
The things that your toddlers will learn from educational toys will become useful later on when they are ready to go to school. Teachers expect these kids to already have a basic understanding about the things that will be taught to them. This is the reason why there are educational toys for toddlers.
The effectiveness of educational toys cannot be seen from how often they are advertised on TV or in children’s stores. It is also not dependent on the movement of these toys.
The most effective educational toys for toddlers are those that can develop the five most important skills that are inherent in every child. What are these five developmental skills?
1. Cognitive skills.
Cognitive skill is how your child can remember, understand, solve and learn from the things and experiences that he or she encounters. According to studies, the level of thinking that children have is what makes them succeed in school and later, in life.
Some of the educational toys for toddlers that help in cognitive development are those that have patterns that children can pick out. These are the also the toys that make children anticipate what is not already visible.
Examples of these are pattern blocks. Children need to piece out the individual patterns to complete the whole picture.
2. Gross motor skills.
The motor skills of children are what make them strong to run, jump, balance, etc. Nowadays, parents prefer their children to stay inside the house most of the time. They are not really considering the fact that the time spent outside playing is one way of developing their motor skills.
Any form of educational toys for toddlers that needs them to be a part of the action is good for their motor skills. Big bricks and blocks will allow the children to use their some of their strength if they ant to them castles or other structures.
3. Fine motor skills.
This is just like the gross motor skills. The only difference is that fine motor skills are used by children in their everyday life. It could be by holding a spoon to eat, drawing some pictures or writing out their names.
Schools test the children they will admit by letting them write out their names. They are testing the fine motor skills that these children have.
Giving your children educational toys for toddlers like pencils, crayons, paper and coloring books will be able to enhance their fine motor skills.
4. Language skills.
The language skills that should be developed by educational toys for toddlers is not only in means of speaking but also in the body language and gestures that children should have. Language skills are also about teaching the kids how to look for and react to other people’s body languages.
Reading stories aloud is the best way to develop their language skills. Making your children create stories and narrate them to you from time to time will improve their limited diction and words.
5. Social skill.
This is how your children will deal with other people. It is also about building relationships, feelings and giving out the proper response to others.
Educational toys for toddlers like some tea set or those games that need other players is one way of enhancing these skills.
Toys for toddlers cannot be considered educational if they are in no way helping in the development of your children’s five important and needed skills.
